  1. In my opinion, the study of literature, should be included as teaching strategies of ESL because, through of this subject is possible stimulate many skills in the learner, for example: fluency, vocabulary, pronunciation, writing. Sandra Mckay 1986 shows that, the use of literature can increase the reading proficiency and interpretative abilities.
Therefore, possibility to the students a wider knowledge of the target language, because is used in real-life situations. Considering, that the language and culture are inseparable, through of literature is possible know others cultures, extend linguistics knowledge, world knowledge, provoke sensations and student’s critical sense.
In this process, the teacher must motivates students with the objective of the stimulate the interest them, about the cognitive process and of importance of learn. Besides, it is necessary make a text’s selection, prioriting the grammar and stile, but the material needs to be specific for each class, for what has been studied not be at a level above or below that of students.
Then, my suggestion to teach the literature in classroom, is first that the teacher can select a material of the same level of learner, considering their age, social context, necessities and this away stimulate the student’s motivation to read the material and to understand the story.

  2. The use of literature in the classroom is important for ESL, because it helps the cultural potential of these students, and develops a taste for literature.
How FRAY says that teaching is not simply literary appreciation of literature is something more like the transfer of energy from the creative literature for students.
The selection of literary texts in simplified form, it helps students better understand what the text is about as difficult a text strictly increases the level of difficulty in understanding the text. Use texts with familiar words can help decipher the text information.
The use of literature, also helps to learn new words, and enriches their cultural knowledge.

The text show that the use of literature in the classroom in a foreign language is no longer just a required course to become an excellent way of learning.
Read literary texts properly, it is with good choice of materials by teachers can provoke in the students in a series of feelings which it may relate to their experiences of life or not, with the knowledge that the student has to culturally speaking world and depending on the feeling that this arouses in the student text, this goes in search of new texts, new forms of relating to other literary genres that you call more attention. He believes that studying literature is no longer just a pleasant way in which the student engages in a story and feel part of it, to feel more like the freedom to give to this text in better shape than a beginning, a middle where he may modify a final and it will depending on your interpretation and feeling experienced by the student at the time of his familiarity with the literary texts.
We know that the intention between reader and author whether or not, it depends on the mood of the moment of pure receiver in the reader's intimacy with the text and also the choice of material, chosen correctly to the right audience; today literature has gained its place as an opportunity for growth and development of cultural potential in the classrooms of seconde languageor foreign language, as through contact with literary texts and the freedom they give us skills can be developed with the case of reading, writing, speaking, more so that these skills are aroused in the students, the teacher is not only the responsibility to choose good text, but also to know the texts that will work with your class.
Literature is an opportunity for cultural enrichment not only in the classrooms of the seconde languageor foreign languages, but the general form. .

    Literature in the ESL classroom
The Sandra Mckay‘s text is about if the use of the literature for English a second Language. The question is the follow: Should literature be part of a curriculum for English as a second Language. According many author that McKay to mention like: Widdowson, Fassler, Lay and others, The main goof the as ESL teachers is to teach the grammar of the language .However the literary’s text had a burden culture in this way it will difficulty the development of the student, Therefore the literature will contribute nothing to helping our student meet their academic and /or occupational goals.
The text presents too, the arguments in favor of the use the literature for ESL, the text say that literature encourage of the tolerance, the respect with the interpretation of the each student, besides the text literary to stimulate the creativity of the theirs. That’s enough that teachers select the right material for each class and they need to apply the activity of right form.
I think the part of the text very important is the follow: “….Finally, an examination of a foreign culture through literature may increase their understanding of that culture and perhaps spur their own imaginative writing.” I agree whit McKay. I think the text literary can developing linguistic knowledge, to improve the reading, to improve the write, to stimulate the creative, and it can too to improve the pronunciation this depend that type of the activity proposal. For this I agree with the literature should be part of a curriculum for ESL.

  5. Sandra Mckay, discuss in her text if should literature be part of a curriculum for English as a second language. And I agree, because literature give us a view of the author about a moment his. If he want to show her way of see the word, and more, by Sandra when she says “language that illustrate a particular register or dialect is embedded within a social context, and thus there is a basis for determining why a particular form is used.” (p.191-192). The literature can aid for student “in development of reading proficiency and in this way contribute to a student’s academic and occupational objectives.”(p.192).
This way, literature can provide for the students, creativity, autonomy, and word knowledge through of the various cultures. And to bring this study into the classroom, give for teacher a diversity of options to development his work, like reading, grammar, pronunciation, discussions about the subject, and other.
